The House Saphir – Marissa Meyer

While this book is a standalone, other books by this author include the ‘Lunar Chronicles’ series and others.

A brief Summary…

Mallory Fontaine is a fraud. Despite being descended from a long line of witches, the only magic Mallory possesses is the the ability to see ghosts. She and her sister have attempted to carry on the family business, making a living by selling fake spells gullible buyers. That and conducting tours of the infamous mansion where the first of the Saphir murders took place.
Mallory, self-proclaimed expert on Count Bastien Saphir (otherwise known as Monsieur Le Bleu, the man who brutally killed three of his wives more than a century ago), never expected to meet Bastien’s great-great-grandson and heir to the Saphir estate. Armand is handsome, wealthy, and completely convince the Fontaine sisters are as magical as they claim, the perfect mark. So, when he offers to pay Mallory a large sum of money to rid his ancestral home of Le Bleu’s ghost, she can’t resist. A paid vacation at Armand’s country manor is practically a dream come true. Never mind the ghosts of murdered wives and monsters that are as common as household pests.
But when murder comes again to the House Saphir, Mallory finds herself at the centre of the investigation. And she is almost certain the killer is mortal. If she has any hope of obtaining the payment she was promised, Mallory will have to solve the murder and banish the ghost, all while upholding the illusion of witchcraft.
But all that seems easy compared to her real challenge: learning to trust her heart. Especially when the person her heart wants might be a murderer himself.

To describe this book and why it was an amazing read any further, would be to spoil its events for a potential reader. So, I will leave the description simple and spoiler free.

My copy of ‘The House Saphir

I new I would love this book before I even started it, the ‘Lunar Chronicles’ series was brilliant. And this book was too. I loved how the author kept the original story and added to it, setting this book centuries later with the original events linking in. The descriptions of the characters are wonderful and Marissa Meyer gives vivid descriptions I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a Marissa Meyer, ‘witches’, and Bluebeard retellings.
