This series contains three main books and a novella ; ‘Powerless (1)’; ‘Powerful (1.5)’; ‘Reckless (2)’; ‘Fearless’ (3). I have not read ‘Fearless’ yet as it was only recently published in hardback (my copies of the other three are paperback – they must match!!)

‘Powerless’ follows the story of Paedyn Gray. Paedyn is an ‘Ordinary’ living in Ilya, a society ruled by the ‘Elites’ – those with abilities gifted by the Plague. As the king decreed that all Ordinaries were banished to preserve the Elite society, Paedyn has spent her life pretending to be a psychic in order to survive. When she saves a stranger in the street, who turns out to be one of Ilya’s princes, she is forced into the ‘Purging Trials’. A competition designed to showcase the one thing Paedyn Gray doesn’t have – the powers of the Elites.

‘Powerful’ tells the story of Paedyn’s best friend, Adena. This novella is set during ‘Powerless’ and follows Adena , and a mysterious new friend – Mak. Together they attempt to find a way to visit their loved ones in the Trials before they begin.

To accurately describe ‘Reckless’ I would need to include spoilers for both ‘Powerless’ and ‘Powerful’, so I will simply say that it follows the events of Paedyn and the prince she saved in the street after the ‘Purging Trials’.

I really enjoyed these books because Lauren Roberts creates an amazing world to disappear into. Once I started reading these, it was really difficult to put them down. I am really excited for ‘Fearless’ even though it will be the final instalment in Paedyn’s story. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone who enjoys books with strong female characters and powers.
